During my election trail, Cllr Kieran McGladdery, Cllr David Albin and Cllr Donna Lockwood, met many residents around Vivary Bridge, finding out what was important to them and how they felt the Borough Councillors could help them.
One project they were keen to support was the return to a usable state of the dilapidated playing fields at Barrowford Road (old grammar school/college grounds).
Your local Councillors met with the most inspiring residents’ group, the Barrowford Road Playing Fields (BRPF) group who we found had been campaigning for years throughout the previous Labour/Liberal Democrat administrations, without success, to return the now meadow back to useable football pitches for the kids of Pendle and beyond. Why they were not supported by the previous Councillors is beyond me.
Fast forwards only a couple of months and the meadow has gone, the grass has been cut and maintained, holes have been filled, bumps rolled flat, drainage carried out, and we are nearly there with four brand new, perfect pitches. Three are 9x9 and we have one 7x7, exclusively for local kids’ teams. The borough booking team have had red hot phones with the teams clambering to get on them.
Kieran McGladdery said, "Last week, I was privileged to meet with Richard and David (BRPF reps in the images) and the maintenance teams from Pendle Borough Council, to oversee the line marking for the pitches which is pretty much complete. Posts and all sundry items are on order and we will soon be hosting the first game.
I am very pleased Cllr Albin and I have been able to support at Borough level this fantastic residents’ group in their tireless endeavours and congratulate them fully in their success. Looking forward to seeing the kids out there!"
