Our ward councillors for Boulsworth were privileged to be invited to the Grand Reopening of the Trawden Community Centre. Save the loos, the entire venue has been completely refurbished. Asda laid on a magnificent spread and the bar was open as, despite dismal weather, Trawdenites pitched up in droves.
There were big cheers and rounds of applause for Chairman of the Trustees, Steven Wilcock, who explained that his hardworking team had started from nothing and raised more than £100,000 to pay for the refurbishment. £28,000 came from a generous grant from Asda and the Colne store manager was there with the regional manager (who cut the ribbon) and the Colne store’s community outreach manager, Diane. Diane gave a speech in tribute to the transformation the Trawden Community Centre Team has wrought and promised to help as they take over the former Library too.
The Conservative Councillors, Paul White, Margaret Foxley and Sarah Cockburn-Price were thanked for the help and support they gave in securing the lease for the former Library. The future certainly looks exciting, as the team hopes to get the new Village Shop, staffed by volunteers, open by Easter!
