COLNE’S Conservative councillors for Horsfield and Boulsworth have supplied grant funding from Colne Area Committee for a new Lidgett and Beyond five mile circular walk. To be known as the East Colne Way, the walk was the brainchild of Lidgett and Beyond members, Mark Chung and John Birchenough.
Cllr Neil Butterworth explained: “I am delighted we could get involved with this new walk that takes in some of the most beautiful parts of Pendle. I admit I may be biased! Horsfield residents are so lucky to have all this lovely countryside on their doorsteps and I am grateful to the L&B team for formulating the route.”
The new walk encompasses both the Upper Rough and The Lidgett Triangle and includes a refreshment point at Ball Grove’s Lakeside Café. The East Colne Way will be promoted by both Pendle Borough Council and Colne Town Council and maps will shortly be available online and from Nelson Town Hall, Colne Town Hall, Boundary Mill and Lakeside Café. Along the route, information boards will explain the history and wildlife of the area.
“I am thrilled we have been able to help get this idea off the ground”, said Cllr Sarah Cockburn-Price. “It is poignant to me that my co-founder of L&B, the late Owen Oliver, did not live to come and walk it with us. However, L&B’s trustees have suggested dedicating a bench for Owen on the route and I think this is a super idea.”
The East Colne Way should be established for walkers at Easter.
