Despite attempts by Labour and the Liberal Democrats to block the transfer of Colne FC’s ground to the Club, the Conservatives pressed ahead with their plans to help secure the long-term future of Colne FC.
Labour and the Liberal Democrat Councillors “called in” the decision to transfer the ground. In plain terms, this means Labour and the Lib Dems are demanding the transfer is stopped and the Council re-considers the decision.
County Coun. Joe Cooney said, “The Lib Dems and Labour have consistently failed to help Colne FC. When they ran the Council, they refused to help and they are actively trying to prevent the Council from helping them now. This lack of support for a great local club, that does so much for the children in Colne and further field, is truly shocking. We want to help them grow.”
As well as attempting to block the transfer, Labour has launched a campaign to reverse the decision, which has it has featured on its election literature.
Colne Coun. Ash Sutcliffe commented, “Labour has implied that the Council is giving Colne FC ALL of Holt House. That simply isn’t true. What the Council is actually doing is giving them their own ground. This is the same ground that Colne FC has maintained and carried out extensive works on for years. This transfer will help the Club attract more investment, which is good for the Town and the hundreds of children across our community who benefit from involvement with Colne FC.”
