Number One Market Street, an underutilised building in the centre of Nelson, has been put up for sale by the new Conservative Administration.
This building, along with the Ace Centre in Nelson, were purchased by the former Lib Dem and Labour administration, with a £5.5 million loan that they borrowed over 50 years. The Conservatives have put the building up for sale and will use the money to pay down the Council’s debt.
Leader of Pendle Council, Cllr Paul White, commented, “These purchases were ill-thought-out and not the right move for the Council. My administration will work hard to undo these purchases and pay down the Council’s debt so future generations aren’t saddled with it.”
