Last week’s arson attempt on Grade II Listed Langroyd Hall shocked many, with late night Social Media updates causing widespread dismay across the town.
The local Police and Fire Brigade were quick to attend the scene and thankfully the blaze, which was in an outbuilding to the rear of the Hall, was swiftly extinguished. That night, the Police made an arrest, followed by two more arrests two days later. The Police’s investigation continues and the Police have thanked members of the public for remaining vigilant and especially for contacting them when trespassers have been sighted.
Cllr Sarah Cockburn-Price commented: “There was no harm done to this historic Colne building this time, but it could have been so different. We have the Fire Brigade, the Police and Council Officers to thank for their speedy responses. My colleagues and myself have asked Pendle Borough Council whether we can insist the owners provide on-site security until the restoration of Langroyd Hall is complete. We do not want to be ruing the day that action could have been taken to protect this landmark building.”
